When I stopped smoking and started to vape, I didn’t have a clue about the different levels of nicotine in e-liquids, and I had a nasty pack-a-day habit to overcome.
The most common e-liquid strengths are 0, 6mg/ml, 12mg/ml, 18mg/ml and 24mg/ml.
Some closed systems have even higher nicotine concentration – for example, the Juul has 59mg/ml of nicotine (some say 50mg/ml). And it works really well to control the cravings!
Here’s the bottom line:
- If you smoke a lot, start at the highest concentration (but please stay safe and reasonable).
- If you don’t smoke a lot, 12mg/ml or 18mg/ml is a safe option
- If you don’t smoke, go without nicotine – or simply don’t vape!
Also note that the level of nicotine isn’t representative of how much much you will get actually get in every puff. The e-cig you’re using will be a big factor – generally speaking, the less vapor it produces, higher is the e-liquid nicotine concentration you’ll need to get the same effect. If you’re upgrading your e-cigarette to a bigger or better model, consider lowering the nicotine concentration.
After some time, you’ll want progressively lower the concentration. It won’t be easy, but I think we all want to get rid of the addiction – just go gradually, and you should be fine. Good luck!
